Founded in 2007 by James Roy, Sarah Roy and Christina Lavelle, Brainworks was among the first full time neurotherapy practices in the UK. They bring their own unique vision to this discipline, putting an emphasis on creating deep change through a grounded, pragmatic, integrative approach.
Brainworks has become a world class provider and leading pioneer of brain regulation technologies. Positioned within a cooperative network of many of the most highly respected thinkers and developers in the field, their methods remain at the forefront of current thinking.

Christina Lavelle (London)
Clinical Director, Founder of Brainworks London. Christina holds certifications as a Wuttke Institute Neurofeedback Specialist, LoRETA neurofeedback certification, iLs certified, certified Neurofeedback Specialist NTCB, BST Master Level neurofeedback practitioner, certified Biofeedback Specialist NTCB, a member of the Society of Applied Neuroscience, with independent training and continued affiliation with world leaders in neurotherapy.
Originally from Durham, Christina studied psychology and sociology before deciding to travel to experience the world first-hand. In Asia she realised the transformative potential of meditation, yoga, nature and nutrition. Returning to her roots in England some 10 years later, she continued her interest in the mind and body with studies in naturopathy, hands-on-work, hypnotherapy and NLP.
On experiencing Neurofeedback she found that her experience, knowledge and empathetic nature could come together in this scientific framework. Today she expertly integrates her technical ability with the insights gained from the eastern traditions to her work as the supervising neurotherapist and director of Brainworks in London.
Christina has recently become the proud mother of a beautiful baby girl.
Nadia Hristova (London)
Originally from Germany, Nadia holds an MSc in Neuropsychology from Ruhr-Universität Bochum and a BSc in Cognitive Science from the University of Osnabrück.
In the past ten years, Nadia has worked on a range of research projects on emotion regulation, brain laterality, perception and action, and cognitive development in children at various academic settings in Germany, and at the University of Reading, UK. Nadia gained her clinical expertise in the Neurorehabilitation Clinic Helios Holthausen, in the University Hospital St. Joseph Bochum and at the EEG Train Neuroclinic, Barsinghausen, conducting neuropsychological and clinical assessments, planning and conducting therapy sessions and evaluating their clinical outcomes.
Nadia has received training from Biofeedback Certification International Alliance (BCIA) and Society of Applied Neuroscience and is a certified neurofeedback practitioner. She has taught technical and clinical modules of EEG-biofeedback courses.
In addition to working with us at Brainworks in London, she is an affiliate of the QEEG-research Lab at the Open University and the Brain Emotion and Cognition Lab at the University of Reading.
Luciana Haill (London)

Luciana Haill has been pioneering EEG neurofeedback in the UK since 1997. Luciana is a visiting research fellow in Sussex University in the department of Informatics exploring human consciousness through art, neuroscience, brain imaging and ethics.
Luciana has lectured across the world merging experience in cognitive Science and Art to mass audiences including The Royal Institution & The Dana centre in London, BAFTA, The Science Museum, MTV in Italy, Dr Stephen LaBerge’s ‘Lucid Dreaming and Awareness workshop’ in Hawaii, The Sage in Gateshead, BBC Radio 4, the Channel 5 series ‘Sex, Lies, and Hypnosis’.
She has been a guest speaker in Neuro / EEG Symposia, iMal in Brussels and CENART in Mexico City, and lectures on EEG and excellence to teachers around the UK.
In addition to being a therapist in our London centre, Luciana is a digital artist with BrainMachine EEG and IBVA.
James Roy
James is Brainworks Director of Research and Development, and a founder of the company. Born and raised on Vancouver Island in Canada, James holds certifications as a Wuttke Institute Neurofeedback Specialist, LoRETA neurofeedback certification, certified Neurofeedback Specialist NTCB, BST Master Level neurofeedback practitioner, certified Biofeedback Specialist NTCB, a member of the Society of Applied Neuroscience, with independent training and continued affiliation with world leaders in neurotherapy.
Pursuing his lifelong interest in the mind, James undertook a full seven years of intensive education in eastern mind sciences; studying with Monks, Yogis and Shamans throughout India, SE Asia, and South America. His studies focused on the mechanisms of the brain relating to the spiritual process.
The insights gained from these studies led James and Sarah to pioneer neurofeedback and mind technologies in the UK.
As well as continued involvement with clients in the UK, James is currently in Costa Rica writing a book on the brain and self development; is a director of Transformational Retreats, and mentors neurofeedback therapists starting their own practice.

Sarah Roy
Company Director, Brainworks founder. Sarah holds certifications as a Wuttke Institute Neurofeedback Specialist, LoRETA neurofeedback certification, iLs certified, certified Neurofeedback Specialist NTCB, BST Master Level neurofeedback practitioner, certified Biofeedback Specialist NTCB, member of the Society of Applied Neuroscience, with independent training and continued affiliation with world leaders in neurotherapy.
Born and raised near London, Sarah spent her twenties working as an accountant in industry. Following a deeper calling, she co-managed a renowned health food store, continuing her studies in mind-body health at The College of Natural Nutrition and running a private practice as a nutritional advisor.
In her 30’s, she moved to India to expand her skills in eastern naturopathy and develop a greater experiential and theoretical knowledge of Yogic philosophy. It was also here that she met her future husband James with whom she built a renowned practice in India; specialising in spiritual development for advanced practitioners.
As well as her continued involvement as a director of Brainworks, Sarah continues to provide client support and neuro-nutrition advice, and is a director of Transformational Retreats. James and Sarah have re-located to Costa Rica to return to the roots of their practice, blending the best mind technologies of the east and west into an integrative retreat setting.
